Colenton Freemna wurde in Atlanta/USA geboren und absolvierte sein Studium an dem Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio. In Los Angeles wurde Freeman beim Metroplitan Opera Wettbewerb mit dem dritten Preis ausgezeichnet. Freemans künstlerische Werdegang wurde maßgeblich beeinflußt durch die Begegnungen mit Margaret Harshaw,Richard Miller, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo und Nicolai Gedda. In intensiven Meisterklasses erhielt er hier entscheidende Impulse.
